Bethel GOP endorses primary and general election candidates

BETHEL, NY — The Town of Bethel Republican Committee met on Tuesday, February 26 to re-organize and endorse candidates for the November 2019 general election. Chairwoman Susan Brown Otto appointed two new committee members: Ruth Duncan and Cathleen Crumley-Doherty.

The following candidates were endorsed by the committee: Rita Sheehan, town clerk; Susan Harte, town justice; Jim Crowley, highway superintendent; and Robert Doherty, county legislator, District 1 (encompassing the towns of Bethel, Cochecton, Tusten and part of Highland). All candidates will be on the Republican line for all elections, including any primaries that may be held in June (forced by other non-party candidates carrying a Republican petition).

“The election calendar has been adopted by New York State to start this process much earlier” noted Chairwoman Otto. “You will see us out there now knocking on doors to get signatures on our petitions to comply with the new earlier dates.” The new laws rolled the primary deadline back three months. “The support of the public is paramount to get our candidates on the ballot,” added Otto.

The Town of Bethel Republican Committee was then joined by Rob Doherty, who had just finished his District 1 Legislator interviews for the Conservative Party line. (Later that night, Rob received word that he had received the Conservative Party endorsement. Furthermore, earlier this week, the Independence Party endorsed Rob as their candidate.)
