Resorts World Casino revenue report

TOWN OF THOMPSON, NY — The new Resorts World Casino isn’t bringing in as much revenue as had been anticipated, according to published reports. A second-quarter earnings report for the Securities and Exchange Commission showed that casino’s parent company Empire Resorts showed a loss of $37.2 million on revenue of $49 million.

Library petitions available

MONTICELLO, NY — Petitions are now available for the October 10 election of trustees at the Ethelbert B. Crawford Public Library. Three board seats are up for election, each for a three-year term (January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2021). Incumbents Constance Keller, Marvin Rappaport and Steven Sharoff are seeking re-election.

MONTICELLO, NY — Dave Nicosia of the National Weather Service paid a visit to the Sullivan County Safety Committee on August 2 to certify that the county has been certified as being a member of the Storm Ready Program.

Bagel Festival

MONTICELLO, NY — This year’s Bagel Festival will take place on Sunday, August 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. More than 100 vendors will line Broadway selling food, crafts and more. There will be a new car show with up to 100 vehicles in 10 different classes, plus the Monticello Motor Club.

DRC awarded foster-home-finding contract

MONTICELLO, NY — The Dispute Resolution Center (DRC) has been awarded the contract for foster-home-finding services of Sullivan County. It will be called “Open Hearts—Open Homes” and will be run by Rebecca Morabito, program coordinator, whose office is located in the County Building at 100 North St. She can be reached at 845/551-4267.

The Mamakating Environmental Education & Interpretive Center will see a new classroom and other improvements as a result of a $10,000 Plans & Progress award.

County awards for Sullivan projects

MONTICELLO, NY — A total of $38,864 has been awarded to eight organizations across Sullivan County for a variety of projects involving recreation, historic preservation and the arts. This money will leverage over $80,000 in total project costs.

Monticello Rotary Monster Run

MONTICELLO, NY — The Monticello Rotary Club 39th annual Monster Run Classic will be held on Sunday, August 5. The event is run by Monticello Rotary as part of Sullivan County Patriot’s Day, and the proceeds will benefit the Sullivan County Veterans Coalition.

Water park to host Sullivan showcase

MONICELLO, NY — The Kartrite Water Park isn’t scheduled to open until early 2019, but on July 24, it will host a showcase meant to feature the recent rapid growth in Sullivan County. The event is being sponsored by the Sullivan County Partnership for Economic Development and the Sullivan Catskills Visitors Association (SCVA).
