The entrance to Honesdale’s Maude Alley opens up to an enticing cluster of privately owned shops.

A woman’s place

HONESDALE, PA — Aromas of all kinds emanate from Maude Alley off of Honesdale’s Main Street.

From the Vietnamese restaurant Bà & Me, the scent of cilantro and pho soup brewing wafts through the air, mingled with lavender and herbal teas coming from the Mount Pleasant Herbary.

Making a plan. My Toast to Milford partner in facials, speed-walking and sipping, Raina Bowers, looks over the map beside the Milford Craft Show. Whatever itinerary we thought up and tried to follow got thrown out the window as our day progressed.

Toasted, tasted, conquered

I’ve never been to Milford. Of course, living a substantial 45 minutes away, I’ve never had much reason to go. But, as The River Reporter’s managing editor, I’m suddenly quite knowledgeable about most of the events happening within a 30-mile radius of my little bubble.

Narrowsburg News

Spring is making itself known throughout Narrowsburg, although the first sprouts are usually eaten by a starving deer after winter’s long fast. While it’s nice to see a crocus, I’m more excited to see Main Street thaw.

Milford art walk

MILFORD, PA — On Saturday, February 23, Milford Presents is hosting a free art walk through the many shops, eateries and galleries within the borough. There will be complimentary refreshments and opportunities to meet local artists from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

In praise of small, local businesses

With both Black Friday and Small Business Saturday coming up, we thought a reminder of the benefits of shopping at local venues vs. national chains and internet stores would be in order.
