I finally did it. I joined the breakfast club at the Fosterdale Café for breakfast on Friday mornings. There were 10 of us. I had a ham and egg on a buttered roll—something so simple, but it was so yummy. There were waffles, blueberry pancakes, eggs, sausage and mouth-watering-looking bacon. We talked, we laughed and we had a great time.

We talked, we laughed and we had a great time.

It was a weekend of birthdays for me. My friend Olga from Callicoon is in Roscoe rehab, and Friday was her 82nd birthday. I brought a cake up there and we had a party. On Saturday, my friend Willy turned 90; we had a party in the Tusten Town Hall. Willy has six kids with whom I am friends from our home town of Bellerose, Queens. We all went to school together.

It’s that time of year when that annoying cough gets in your lungs. Not sure if I should get the flu shot or not. I always get sick after I get them, but it’s supposed not to be as bad as getting the flu.*

The Cochecton Youth Commission (CYC) is holding a sign-up for its annual holiday party on Wednesday, November 7 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the town hall, lower level. The party will be held on Saturday, December 15. The CYC would like to send their condolences to the family of Joan Ernst, who passed away last week, and is in our thoughts and prayers. Joan was a great asset to the CYC, and went above and beyond for the kids of the Town of Cochecton. Joan, you will truly be missed. May you rest in peace.

Save the date: on Tuesday, January 1 there will be a New Year’s chicken barbeque at the Lake Huntington Fire Company  from 2 to 5 p.m. To get your tickets in advance, call 845/932-8514. It will be take-out only.

Keep smiling and have a great week. Email leeniebeans@citlink.net or call 845/252-3568 if you have news. You can always check me out at riverreporter.com in Community Living.

[*Editor’s note: according to the Centers for Disease Control, it is not possible to get the flu from flu shots.]
