Marjorie A. Bachelder, a retired assembler for Kolmar Labs, Inc., Port Jervis, NY and lifelong area resident, died Thursday, August 16, 2007 at Mercy Hospital, Scranton, PA. She was 83.

The daughter of the late Henry and Anna Carr Thiele, she was born August 17, 1924 in Mongaup, NY.

Marge attended the Pond Eddy United Methodist Church and was a member of the North Lake Presbyterian Church, Lady Lake, FL. She was an affiliate member of the Belleview United Methodist Church, Belleview, FL, and a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Tri-State Naval Ship #7241, Port Jervis.

She is survived by her husband, Douglas R. Bachelder at home; three sons, Norman Bachelder and wife Margaret of Milford, PA, Richard Bachelder and wife Nancy of Crossville, TN and Kenneth Bachelder and wife Debbie of Pedro, FL; three daughters, Katherine Lemon and husband Butch of Matamoras, PA, Sandra McCann and husband Bill of Sparrowbush, NY and JoAnn Schreibel and husband Tom of Lady Lake; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard Thiele and wife Genevieve of Glen Spey, NY; three sisters, Louise McKerrell and Florence Hunt both of Glen Spey, Deline Norris of Hillside, NY; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Monday, August 20 at the Pond Eddy United Methodist Church, Pond Eddy. The Rev. Nancy Vonderhorst officiated. Interment will be private.

Betty E. Bunnell died on Thursday, August 9, 2007 at her home in Honesdale, PA. She and her husband, Kenneth M. Bunnell, were married on January 1, 1942 in the Damascus Baptist Church.

The daughter of the late Bertram and Hazel Theis, she was born on February 26, 1920 in Tyler Hill, PA.

Betty worked at Wayne Manufacturing during the war years, then at Van Deusen’s Candy Store and later as a waitress at Kreitner’s Restaurant for 13 years. Betty was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Honesdale since January 31, 1946. She volunteered at Wayne Memorial Hospital, worked with a Brownie troop and was a helper and assistant leader with Girl Scout troops 257 and 484.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by their three children, daughter Marilynn Dee Jaggars and husband John, son James M. Bunnell and wife Cindy, all of Honesdale, and daughter Susan J. Graziadio and husband Mark of White Mills, PA; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, R. Thelma Spry of Honesdale, Margaret O’Neill of Pleasant Mount, PA and Shirley Noble of Honesdale; sister-in-law Alice Theis of Tyler Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Gideon Theis.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at Central United Methodist Church, followed by interment at the Glen-Dyberry Cemetery.

Sebastian F. “Buster” Carleo of Yulan, NY passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 in Winter Springs, FL. He was 88.

The son of the late Francesco and Maria Carleo, he was born October 14, 1918 in Ravenswood, NY.

Sebastian proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps from 1941 through 1946. He became a sergeant and earned several medals. Sebastian retired from the City of New York Department of Sanitation in 1980.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty Louise at home; his two sons, Thomas Carleo and wife Denise of Queens Village, NY and Scott and wife Laurie of Flushing, NY; four daughters, Kathryn and husband William of Las Vegas, NV, Laura and husband Vincent of San Diego, CA, Patricia and husband Craig of Winter Springs, FL and Jennifer and husband Shawn of Pond Eddy, NY; a sister, Josephine Cawlo of Malverne, NY; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Vincent, Frank and Joseph; one sister, Mary; two daughters, Barbara Marie and Lisa Marie; and a grandson, Jason.

A memorial service will take place at the convenience of the family. The National Cremation Society performed cremation. Burial will take place at St. Anthony’s of Padua Cemetery located in Eldred, NY.


Elsie B. Feduchka, a lifetime resident of Newburgh, NY, died on Thursday, August 16, 2007 at home. She was 81.

The daughter of the late William and Elsie Beattie, she was born August 13, 1926 in Newburgh.

She married Michael J. Feduchka Sr. on January 28, 1951 in Brooklyn, who predeceased her on June 29, 1994. Elsie attended Wallkill High School and Spencerian Business School. She was a retired legal secretary at Stewart Air Force Base, New York State Court Judge Daniel Becker and Norton & Christensen. She was a former member and officer of the Town of Newburgh Seniors and the Village of Walden Seniors; and a member of the Town of Montgomery Seniors.

She is survived by her children, Elizabeth Wardlaw and husband Richard of Shohola, PA, Margaret Feduchka of Plattekill, NY and Michael J. Feduchka Jr. of Kingston, NY; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was on Saturday, August 18 at Brooks Funeral Home, Newburgh. Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory. Burial of cremains will be in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Grace E. Hiris of Meza, AZ, formerly of Hawley and Beach Lake, PA, died on August 17, 2007 in Meza. She was 79.

She is survived by a daughter, Lisa Jaeger and her husband Joshua of Gilbert, AZ; three sons, John Whitlock, Edward Whitlock and Mark Whitlock of Scottsdale, AZ; a sister, Clara Graves and her husband Al of Baldwinsville, NY; a sister, Mary Weinberger of Waymart, PA; a sister-in-law, Alice Conbeer of Honesdale, PA; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Friday, August 24 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Teeters’ East Chapel in Hawley, PA. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Teeters’ with the Rev. Theodore Muller presiding. Interment will be at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Kimbles, PA.


Mildred Aldine Lybolt of Otisville, NY died peacefully Sunday, August 19, 2007 at her residence. She was 82.

The daughter of Ralph and Mary Conklin Horton, she was born in Middletown, NY on April 9, 1925.

Mildred was the widow of Robert Denton Lybolt to whom she was married for 60 years. She was a member of the New Vernon Church and was foster mom to more than 90 children, whom she took care of even through her illness. She was a housewife at home.

She is survived by her four daughters, Bonnie Culhane and husband Doug of Newburgh, NY, Connie McGuire and husband Dan of Otisville, Barbara Lybolt of Otisville and Jane Meckle of Tennessee; three sons, Robert Lybolt and wife Cindy of Middletown, Ronald Lybolt and wife Mary of Glen Spey, NY and Richard Lybolt and wife Mary of Glen Spey; three sisters, Hazel Barnes of Middletown, Marge Gambino and husband Charles of Key Largo, FL and Betty Hassenmayer and husband Albert of Middletown; her brother, Alfred “Jimmy” Horton and wife Barbara of Bloomingburg, NY; her sister-in-law, Alice Horton of Middletown; 26 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Donna Daktar; and brother, Roy Horton.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at the Morse Funeral Home Inc., Middletown. The Rev. Daniel Hulseapple officiated. Following cremation, interment of ashes will be Saturday, August 25 at 10:00 a.m. in Wallkill Cemetery, Phillipsburg, NY.

Alberta M. Myers, a retired beautician and owner of the Eldred Beauty Shop in Eldred, NY and lifelong area resident, died Friday, August 17, 2007 at Achieve Health and Rehabilitation Facility, Liberty. She was 92.

The daughter of the late William and Irene Rosa Doughty, she was born April 27, 1915 in Halls Mills, NY.

Alberta was the widow of Stanley A. Myers. She was a member of the Eldred Congregation Church, Eldred and Ladies Auxiliary of the Church. Alberta was the recipient of Mother of the Year Award from the Girl Scouts of Eldred. She received the Citizen of the Year Award. She was named Business & Professional Woman of the Year and she was the First Foster Mother of Sullivan County, raising over 225 children since 1944.

She is survived by five sons, Harris Myers and wife Becky of Kauneonga Lake, NY, Harry Krom of Eldred, William Wickberg and wife Brandy of Myrtle Beach, SC, Bill VonSteenburgh of Monticello, NY and John VonSteenburgh of Eldred; five daughters, Bonnie Myers of Middletown, NY, Kathy Zentz of Eldred, Jackie Sisco and husband Rodney of North Carolina, Theresa Draxler at home and Lena Porter of Middletown; many grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Linda Myers; brother Clifford Doughty; and sister Viola Shaw.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at the Eldred Congregational Church, Eldred. The Rev. Richard Hotzler officiated. Burial was in Montoza Cemetery, Eldred.

Shane Brian Quinn of Honesdale, PA passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 12, 2007 in Abrahamsville, PA. He was 31. He is survived by his fiancée’, Sherri Ann Peck of Honesdale.

The son of Edward Allen Quinn of Beach Lake, PA and Denise White Morabito of Vermont, he was born in Honesdale.

Shane graduated from Honesdale High School in 1994. He served in the United States National Guard, Army Reserve and worked driving truck for a construction company.

He is survived by a stepfather, Charles Morabito and a stepmother, Jean Quinn; paternal grandfather Allen Quinn of Abrahamsville; maternal grandparents Byron and Ruth White of Cherry Ridge, PA; two brothers, Edward Quinn, Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Clarksville, TN and Joseph Quinn and wife Myrtle of Beach Lake; and a nephew.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.


N. Dick “Bones” Roda, a retired maintenance supervisor for the Orange County Parks System, Montgomery, NY and lifelong area resident, died Sunday, August 12, 2007 at his home. He was 72.

The son of the late Adin Roda and Gertrude Kruger Roda, he was born August 11, 1935 in Middletown, NY.

Dick was married first to the late Margaret Tompkins Roda and second to the late Sandra McCahon Roda.

He is survived by two sons, Richard Roda and wife Jodie of W. Haven, CT and David Roda and wife Jodi of Middletown, NY; his daughters, Susan Lowenhaupt of Middletown, Deborah Roda of Middletown, Peggy Jo Roda and Lori Hock of New Hampton; five stepchildren; one sister, Joan Applegate of Sparrowbush, NY; a brother, Warren Roda and wife Doris of Otisville, NY; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter; longtime friend Ray Decker of the Town of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, John Applegate.

Private interment will take place at Mt. Hope-Plains Cemetery, Otisville.

Laurance “Larry” Alfred Tewksbury, a longtime area resident, died Thursday, August 16, 2007 at ORMC Horton Campus, Middletown, NY. He was 72.

The son of the late Carl Van Tewksbury and Helen Emma Spoor, he was born on February 22, 1935 in East Stroudsburg, PA.

Larry married Nadine Bloss in Scotrun, PA on June 25, 1955 in the church her grandfather and family built. Larry and Nadine were both members of St. John’s Lutheran Church in both Middletown, PA and Scotrun. He started the Pocatella Homeowners Association. He retired from The Times Herald Record, Tri-State Gazette and the Career Center. He was a past master of Hoffman Lodge # 412.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nadine Aleice; three daughters, Terry Lynne Krieger and husband Robert of Gardiner, NY, Wendy Kay Wilcox and husband Nelson of Middletown and Diane Louise Ricciarelli and husband Lawrence of Shohola, PA; two grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Larry was predeceased by his siblings, Elizabeth, Joyce, Adrian and Carl.

A service of remembrance was held on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., Middletown. Pastor Robert Hewitt officiated. Family and friends will gather Thursday, August 23 at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home, and the funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in St. John’s Lutheran Church, Scotrun. Pastor Alfred Ruggiero will officiate. Burial will follow in Scotrun Cemetery, Scotrun.
