Theresa (Terry) Foster died on February 28, 2007 in Deland, FL. She was 53.

Daughter of Elaine Bell and John Hofsommer, she was born in Monticello, NY on October 6, 1953.

Terry graduated from Monticello High School and BOCES beautician school. After graduation she moved to Orange City, FL.

She is survived by her mother, Elaine Bell of Mongaup Valley, NY; two daughters, Tina Spitzer and husband Greg of Deltona, FL and Sue Ellen Foster of Orange City; five grandchildren; two sisters, Kathy Kearney and husband Dennis of Thompsonville, NY and Melody Williams and husband Charles of Wawarsing, NY; four brothers, John Hofsommer and wife Wendy of Monticello, James Hofsommer and wife Nancy of Smallwood, NY, Todd Hofsommer and wife Lisa of Pine Bush, NY and Jeffrey Hofsommer of Daytona Beach, FL.

A memorial service was held at the Allan Summerhill Funeral Home, Orange City, FL on March 10, 2007. Cremation was done by the funeral home.

Donations can be made to the United Methodist Church in Kauneonga Lake, NY.


Albert J. Hamel of Walden, NY, a retired stores handler for Trans World Airlines, support manager for WalMart in Newburgh, NY and a 10-year resident of the area, died Wednesday, March 14, 2007, in Westchester, NY. He was 76.

The son of the late Albert Hamel and Ella Johnson Hamel, he was born September 19, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY.

Albert was a member of the Walden Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Hamel at home; son Scott Hamel and his wife Susan of Bloomingburg, NY; daughter Wendy Sarcka and her husband Dave of Nevada; three grandsons; three sisters, June Tetzlaff of Howard Beach, NY, Caroline Zappala and husband Sonny of the Bronx, NY, and Linda Murray and husband Richard of Shohola, PA; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Sunday, March 18, 2007 at the Millspaugh Funeral Home, Walden, with a funeral service following with the Rev. James Van Houten officiating. Burial will be private.

Barbara (Harlor) Kennedy of Lake Ariel, PA died on March 20, 2007. She was 96.

The daughter of the late Raymond and Mabel Mcinsh Harlor, she was born in Hazelton, PA.

Barbara was a member of St Ann’s RC Church of Shohola, PA.

She is survived by her sisters, Jane Hagey of St. Petersburg, FL, Margaret Armstrong of St. Petersburg and Patricia Marso of Media, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 23, 2007 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Teeters’ East Chapel, Hawley, PA. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas Major officiating. Interment will be at St Ann’s Cemetery, Shohola Township, Shohola, PA.

Mabel M. Padgett, a life-long resident of the area, died March 17, 2007 at Milford Senior Care, Milford, PA. She was 87.

Daughter of the late George and Grace Jones Cox, she was born May 21, 1919 in Port Jervis, NY. She was the widow of the late David Padgett.

She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Hendershot and husband Donald of Port Jervis and Patricia Fuller and husband Kenneth of Port Jervis; one son, James Padgett and wife Marian of Sparrowbush, NY; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, including Betty Fleming of Port Jervis. She is predeceased by three brothers, Charles, Fred and Percy Cox; and a sister, Mildred Holly.

Friends may call Thursday, March 22, 2007 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Port Jervis, NY. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 22 at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Ann Rost officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush, NY.

Lucille (Moccio) Pergola of Hawley, PA died March 14, 2007 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, NY. She was 72.

Daughter of the late Peter and Catherine Carbarry Moccio, she was born in Brooklyn, NY.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel Pergola; three sons, Ronald Rogers of Lords Valley, PA, Peter Rogers of Ooltewah, TN and Christopher Rogers of Lackawaxen, PA; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on March 17, 2007 at Teeters’ East Chapel with the Rev. Richard W. Beck, Pastor B.V.M. Queen of Peace RC Church officiating. Cremation was at the Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel, PA.


Georgeina Rickard of Cherry Ridge, PA died on Friday, March 9, 2007 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, PA after an illness. She was 81.

The daughter of the late Frederick and Lillian Lewis Price, she was born May 21, 1925 in Scranton, PA.

Georgeina was a loving housewife and mother. She also worked on the family dairy farm in Cherry Ridge, PA. She enjoyed painting, watching her grandchildren and loved her dog, Natasha.

She is survived by two sons, John William Rickard and his wife Diane of Cherry Ridge and Tony Alexander and his wife Ligia of New Jersey; a daughter, Emmy Kuhn and her husband Frank of Shohola, PA; a brother, Frederick Price and wife Nina of Beach Lake, PA; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Tony Pirino; her second husband, John Rickard who died in July 1993; and a daughter, Vivian Bressett.

As per her request, private funeral services will be held at the family’s convenience.


Robert P. Schmidt of Callicoon Center, NY, a longtime resident of Sullivan County, passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2007 at Rosewood Nursing Home in Orlando, FL. He was 79.

The son of Peter D. Schmidt and Elsie Schwarz, he was born December 31, 1927 in Port Jervis, NY. His wife, Estelle, predeceased him in 1990.

Robert married Estelle Wilson October 6, 1951 at the Church of the Good Shepherd in New York City. They lived and raised their family in Callicoon Center until they both retired and moved to Florida. He was an auto body man his whole life. From working in his father’s trucking business, he went into business for himself, under the name of Bob’s Auto Body. He then attended college to get his teaching degree and was the original auto body instructor when Sullivan County BOCES was created. He enjoyed teaching so much that when he retired, he went to Florida and taught at Jones High School. During his teaching career, he wrote two textbooks, one on auto body and one on welding. He was a 30-year member and past treasurer of the Callicoon Center Fire Department, a member of St. George’s Church, and the Jeffersonville Volunteer First Aid Corps. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a remarkable father who was loved and admired by his wife, children, family and others whose lives he touched.

He is survived by three sons, Robert of Hawaii, Peter and his wife Sara, of Orlando, FL and James and his wife Dana of Hurleyville, NY; his daughters, Patricia and her husband Mark Pearlman of Orlando; Laure and her husband John Steele of Orlando; Jeanne and her husband Ron Gettys of Loganton, PA; and Lisa and her husband Rick Marsh of Orlando; his grandchildren, Stella, Robert III and Peter Schmidt, Karen Brooks, Cathi Short and John McIntyre, David, Jessie, Ashley and Paige Schmidt, Michael and Amber Schmidt, Erick and Dylan Steele, and Valerie, Melissa and Robert Gettys; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a sister, Madeline Forsblom.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Vincent J. Schmidt and Paul Schmidt.

Services were held March 14 at Carey Hand Cox-Parker Funeral Home, Winter Park, FL.

A Celebration of Life ceremony, and burial of the remains in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Obernburg, will be held later in the year.
