Nancy Wells holds a birdhouse she has decorated for the Wayne County Arts Alliance’s annual public art project, themed “Home Tweet Home.” Wayne County businesses have sponsored 67 local artists to decorate two-foot-tall birdhouses on seven-foot poles. They will be displayed throughout town during Honesdale’s Memorial Day weekend Arts & Antiques festival.

18th-century cooking demonstrations

PORT JERVIS, NY—Minisink Valley Historical Society opens the season for the Decker Stone House at 127 West Main Street with demonstrations of 18th- century cooking techniques over an open fire on Saturday, May 27. “Receipts,” as recipes were then known, for items like journey bread or hoe cake, hasty pudding, bread, roast chicken and duck will be prepared, weather permitting.

Memorial Day poem commemorates, questions

MILFORD, PA—Poet Chuck O’Neil has written “Memorial Days,” a poem in three parts that begins in the 1960s in Norwich, CT, where he was born, and ends in the present day at Memorial Park, Milford, his adopted hometown. Written to honor veterans, the poem’s dedication is to “the ones who survived beachheads and deserts, mountains and jungles, but were lost in the battle of their hometown returns.”
