HAWLEY, PA — This year, the Pike County Conservation District annual dinner will feature a live performance of “Trees” by NACL Streets, NACL Theatre’s street performance troupe. “Trees” is about the connectivity, communication and co-operative existence in forests.

Chefs United benefit dinner

HAWLEY, PA — The United Way of Pike County’s 15th annual Chefs United Dinner will take place at the at Silver Birches Resort on Thursday, November 8. The event will begin with cocktail hour at 5:30 and dinner at 7 p.m. The evening will showcase chefs from the finest area restaurants who will prepare their restaurant specialties.

Hickory Project will be one of three bands at the concluding bluegrass concert of the Hawley Harvest Hoedown.

‘Paint Your Pet’ fundraisers for Dessin

HAWLEY AND HONESDALE, PA — In late September, “Paint Your Pet” party fundraisers for the Dessin Animal Shelter will take place in Hawley and Honesdale. Pet portrait artist, painter and art instructor Jill Carletti will guide participants in painting their own pet portraits.

Looking Back 8/30/18

John S. O’Connor built the glass-cutting factory at the foot of the Wallenpaupack Falls, Hawley, in 1890, quickly establishing a highly successful business producing American rich cut glass. The factory, constructed of native stone, was heated by steam and lighted by electricity.

Bernt Balchen scholarship winners

HAWLEY, PA — In June, the Bernt Balchen Lodge #3-566, Sons of Norway, awarded three $500 scholarships for this year. The students were chosen for the difference they make in school and in their communities with their volunteer work, as well as their scholastic achievements.

‘Signs of Aging’: locally shot film, local filmmaker

HAWLEY, PA — Supported by a grant from The Greater Pike County Community Foundation Richard L. Snyder Fund, the short film “Signs of Aging” will be produced in Tafton and Newfoundland in early September. The film is a dark comedy about a mysterious woman who tries to stop a pushy skin-cream salesperson selling anti-aging potions.
