Classes too big, budget too small

WESTFALL, PA — A relatively short August 16 business meeting of the Delaware Valley School District (DV) School Board was followed by a lengthy board and audience debate about why four teaching positions were deleted in order to zero out any new taxes in the budget while elementary-school class-size projections show considerably more elementary

More changes at Eldred School District

ELDRED, NY — The agenda was replete with personnel changes for the school board to acknowledge. Chief among them was the announced retirement of Virginia Keegan, who came to the district six years ago to serve as elementary school principal and was reassigned during the past school year to the junior-senior high school.

Melding science and art, NACL Streets performed its new work, “Trees,” at the 2018 Upper Delaware BioBlitz, adjacent to the base camp collection area where teams of scientists shared their finds with the public. The provocative piece explored how trees are connected and what humans can learn about community from trees.

ELDRED, NY — He’s staying. That was the result of the Eldred school board’s vote to rescind the resolution approved at the May 21 board meeting accepting Dr. John Morgano’s resignation as Superintendent effective August 15.

Summer reading program

MONTICELLO, NY — The Ethelbert B. Crawford Public Library’s summer reading program offers a variety of activities for kids, tweens and teens this summer. Sign-ups are in progress and activities will start Monday, July 2.

BioBlitz scheduled for June 30

STARLIGHT, PA — The Upper Delaware BioBlitz will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 30 near the intersection of Hancock Highway and Crosstown Highway. At a BioBlitz, biologists and volunteers gather to collect, identify, and catalogue every living thing on the designated property in a 24-hour period.
