WAYNE AND PIKE COUNTIES, PA — The Wayne/Pike Farm Bureau (WPFB) has presented its Local Service to Agriculture award to Lynita Vail of Rileyville. For over 50 years, Lynita has been a fixture in Wayne County Agriculture.
Lynita’s father-in-law, Merritt Vail, began the Wayne County Farmers’ Association in 1951. Her husband, Milton, became a director in the organization along with running two milk routes and working their 10th-generation dairy farm. In the early days, the directors’ wives would attend board meetings with their husbands, but gathered in a separate room. These women became the Women’s Committee, in which Lynita became active and still serves as co-chair today. Her years of service have included, among other affiliations and activities, the Hickory Grange, ECID of Dairylea Cooperative, Cold Spring/Rileyville 4-H, Dairy Princess committee and parade coordinator.
