The Traveling Vietnam Wall is coming to Sullivan County

Posted

MONTICELLO, NY — The Sullivan County Veterans Coalition, in partnership with the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce, will host the AVTT Traveling Wall Vietnam Veterans Memorial at the Rock Hill Volunteer Fire Department’s Park September 11 to 14, 2019. The groups are looking for volunteers and financial support for this project.

The traveling wall is an 80% replica of the Washington, D.C. Vietnam Veterans Memorial, which honors service members who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of their country in the Vietnam War. It is the largest traveling wall replica in the country.

The AVTT Traveling Wall will be hosted in conjunction with the Veterans Day, Patriots’ Day and the Sullivan County Volunteer Fire Association’s annual Firefighters Parade, which will take place September 14.

“The Vietnam Wall stands as a reminder of the ultimate sacrifice that men and women made and helps to heal the wounds from the war,” said Sullivan County’s Veteran Coalition coordinator Rocky Ortega. “The Moving Wall was created to allow people from across America—who may otherwise be unable to make the trip to Washington, D.C.—the opportunity to visit the monument in their hometown.”

Event organizers are seeking donations, which are tax deductible, sponsorships to help facilitate the project and volunteers to help with set up/take down of the AVTT Traveling Wall, or to help escort visitors needing on-site assistance. Those wishing to make a donation can make their checks payable to S.C.V.C. Wall Fund, PO Box 1527, Monticello, NY 12701. For more information, contact Rocky Ortega at 845/665-3171, rqortega@yahoo.com or Howard Goldsmith at 845/791-1030, Goldsmithhow@ya hoo.com.
