Stormwater management field tour

LORDS VALLEY, PA — The Pike County Conservation District will host a free field tour on Tuesday, May 15, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., of local sites that have successfully implemented Best Management Practices related to stormwater runoff and weather resiliency. The tour bus will leave from the Pike County Training Center, at 135 Pike County Blvd.

When water from rainfall or snowmelt flows across land, the resulting stormwater should be absorbed into the soil. However, when the land’s surface is changed by the construction of buildings or parking lots, rain that falls on paved or hard surfaces such as roofs and driveways runs off much faster. In some cases it picks up pollutants before it enters local waterways, degrading the health of our streams, lakes and drinking water.

Tour sites include the Pike County Training Center, Delaware Valley High School and Elementary School, Airport Park, and Little Walker Road. Lunch will be provided. Some walking is required at each site. The tour is limited to 25 participants. To reserve your seat on the bus, email pikecd@pikepa.org or call 570/226-8220. Visit Pike Conservation.org.

The tour is funded by a Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Environmental Education Grant.
