Run-to-Read 5k

HAWLEY, PA — The eighth annual Run-To-Read 5k, sponsored by the Hawley Public Library, will be held on Saturday, October 6, starting in Hawley’s Bingham Park.

Rain or shine, first to step off, at 8:30 a.m., will be the free Fun Run for children 10 and under starting in the ball field. Meanwhile, lining up on Park Place will be the 5k participants in the following age groups: 10 and under, 11 to 15, 16 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 34, 35 to 39, 40 to 44, 45 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 and over.

At 9 a.m., Hawley Mayor Kevin Hawk will fire the starting gun and runners and walkers will take off on a course that will take them along the Lackawaxen River, up Oakland Street and around Green Gates Cemetery; they will then retrace the route to the finish line.

First-place overall male and female runners will receive trophies, and medals will go to first-, second-, and third-place female and male runners in each age category. Ribbons go to first-, second-, and third-place walkers in each age category, and all participants will receive a T-shirt.

Pre-registration costs $15 and will be accepted at the library through Thursday, October 4. You can also register online at www.waynelibraries.org/hawley/haw ley. Registrations on Friday, October 5, and on the day of the event will cost $18.
