HURLEYVILLE, NY — The Hurleyville Arts Centre, 219 Main St., will hold a 9/11 Commemoration and Survivor Tree Dedication on Sunday, September 9 at 1:30 p.m.

The Survivor Tree is a pear tree that survived the September 11, 2001 World Trade Center attacks. It was discovered severely damaged, but alive, removed from the rubble and taken care of by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. After rehabilitation, the tree was returned to the site of the 9/11 Memorial in 2010. The Survivor Tree seedling program was launched on September 11, 2013, by the 9/11 Memorial and Museum in partnership with Bartlett Tree Experts, of Stamford, CT and John Bowne High School in Queens.

The Hurleyville Arts Centre has the honor of receiving three Survivor Tree saplings to plant. In addition to the planting, a 15-minute film loop will be on view in the cinema highlighting the background of the survivor tree from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The dedication ceremony will be held at the head of the Hurleyville Rail to Trails on Main Street at 2 p.m. For more information visit www.hurleyvilleartscentre.org.
