EQUINUNK, PA — Dan Myers, director of the Center for Adult and Community Services, a division of Southern Westchester BOCES, will present a program titled “Acid Factories: A History of the Wood Chemical Industry” on Saturday, August 4 at 1 p.m. at the Equinunk Historical Society, 1972 Pine Mill Rd.

Myers’ great fascination for local and industrial history is evident. He has divided his working life between administration in public education and leadership in the machine tool industry. His interest in acid factories dates back to his childhood, when he was able to see the remnants of many of the factories scattered around Sullivan and Delaware Counties. He and his family reside in their 10th-generation homestead in Orange County, and his namesake, Daniel Myers, fought locally at the Battle of Minisink and was with Washington when the British drove the American forces from New York City. His book “The Wood Chemical Industry in the Delaware Valley” was published by the Ontario and Western Railway Historical Society in 1986.

The Calder Gift Shop will also open at noon. For more information call 570/224-6722.
