A day of reaching for enlightenment

NARROWSBURG, NY — In the Buddhist tradition, Rohatsu Sesshin, or the morning star retreat, is the most important retreat of the year. It marks and celebrates Shakyamuni Buddha’s enlightenment. Rohatsu is a powerful and deep gathering of individuals dedicated to realizing and expressing the Buddha way through deep silence, extended periods of sitting and walking meditation, shared meals, liturgy and body-movement practices such as yoga and tai chi, all concluding with the sounding of the bell and a celebration.

On December 8 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Two Rivers Zen will host a Rohatsu Sesshin day for those who want to participate for the full day or just some of it. The studio is at 76 Main St., above the One Grand Bookstore. The full schedule of the day can be found at tworiverszen.org/rohat su-full-schedule/.
