Catskill Brewery brews beer to aid wildfire effort

LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — The Catskill Brewery is making a show of support, along with 1,400 other breweries worldwide, to brew a special beer that will benefit the relief effort of the Camp Fire in Butte County, CA.

The fire, which was completely contained by November 2018, consumed more than 153,000 acres of land, killing at least 86 people and injuring five firefighters. Officials said it was the deadliest and most destructive fire in the state’s history.

“Seeing how these fires obliterate a community makes us look at our own vulnerabilities and need for the help of others. Whether it’s the fight for pristine water rights or simply lending a helping hand whenever possible, Catskill Brewery has a mission to support these kinds of efforts,” said Greg Lofaro, director of operations at Catskill Brewery. “We are inspired by Sierra Nevada’s leadership and are proud to stand with all brewers to reflect gratefully on the work we love and contribute to a needed cause. This also gives us the opportunity to recognize the firefighters and first responders in our own region who selflessly put their lives on the line to protect our communities.”

Catskill brewer Bill Vernold described the IPA as an “inviting beer” with a deep amber color and an aroma of pine resin and eucalyptus. “This is a sharp and refreshing IPA,” he said. “I am excited to put this collaboration brew in front of our customers and honored to be a small part of this important effort.” Those interested in making further contributions can donate directly to Sierra Nevada’s relief fund at www.goldenvalley.bank/Community-Foundation.aspx
