Faster than fairies, Faster than witches,
Bridges and Houses, hedges and ditches,
And charging along like troops in a battle,
All through the meadows the horses and cattle;
All of the sights of the hill and the plain
Fly as thick as driving rain;
And ever again, in the wink of an eye,
Painted stations whistle by.
            — Robert Louis Stephenson
The late Lillian and Edward P. Krauss sent this picture and poem to family and friends for the Christmas of 1993. She wrote: “The Cochecton Railroad Station, one of the most historic structures in the Delaware corridor, is the focus of our efforts this coming year. The need to preserve the 140-year-old structure is urgent because its owner, Cochecton Mills, require use of the land upon which it rests. Therefore we helped form the Cochecton Preservation Society. With Precious Memories, Lillian and Edward”
The Cochecton Preservation Society’s next meeting will be in March of 2017 at the station. To make an appointment for a tour call 845/932-8104 or email cps12726@gmail.com Visit Cochectonpreservationsociety.com. Merry Christmas!
