What was old is new again! The Long Eddy home, known as “Bluestone Terraces” due to its intricate stone walls throughout the property, has recently received a major renovation, bringing it back to its former glory. The home was built in 1867 by Dennis D. McKoon, one of the founders and president of Douglas City, as Long Eddy was known from 1867 to 1878. The building was briefly sold out of the McKoon family, but was repurchased by Horace McKoon upon his return from speculating for gold in California. He set about to rebuild the house in 1901, vowing, “It will be one of the finest in the place.” It was the home of Morgan McKoon, a lawyer and national speaker for the Women’s Christian Temperance Union. (Yes, Long Eddy had an active temperance organization!) The house remained in the McKoon family until 2006 with the passing of Alice (McKoon) Flipsen. Current owners Matthew Cooley and Calvin Sun have worked to reverse the remodeling of the 1960s and 1970s in favor of the building’s original appearance.
