BETHEL, NY — Sullivan County Public Health Services will host a forum titled “Local Solutions to a National Opioid Crisis: Prescription Drugs and Heroin” on Wednesday, October 11 at 9 a.m. at the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. Among the presenters will be Fred Wells Branson II, president/CEO of Project Lazarus, whose program has helped reduce the number of deaths from opioid overdoses by 50% in North Carolina. Also present will be Paul Pellinger from Recovery Unplugged, who will share his program’s successes in recovery using music in treatment.

Nicholas Batson, a board-certified psychiatrist from Crystal Run Healthcare, will talk about the physiology of addiction and discuss various cutting-edge treatments, and Sullivan County Public Health Director Nancy DeGraw will discuss the issue of addiction from the public health perspective and give an update on local efforts to address the problem.

A special booklet, “Real Recovery,” produced by River Reporter parent Stuart Communications, will be distributed free.
