Mick’s Barber Shop raises $6,817 at Buzz Off Cancer 2017
HONESDALE, PA — Mick’s Barber Shop recently hosted Buzz Off Cancer 2017, raising $6,817.44 to support the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute.
Buzz Off Cancer is a biennial fundraiser launched in 2011 to promote cancer awareness. It encourages individuals to collect pledges from friends and family in return for having their hair or beard buzzed off. Mick’s Barber Shop staff volunteered their time for the event, and other funds were raised through the sale of T-shirts, wristbands, raffle tickets and refreshments. Mobile buzz events were also held at Honesdale High School and Toyota of Scranton, and campers from Northern Wayne’s Camp Poyntelle Lewis Village raised funds by hosting a carwash.
Northeast Regional Cancer Institute is a local, non-profit organization working to ease the burden of cancer in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The institute focuses on three main program areas: community and patient services, hospital and practice support services, and cancer surveillance.
