Wallenpaupack Area High School students win 2019 Pike/Wayne Envirothon

WAYNE AND PIKE COUNTIES, PA — The Wallenpaupack Area High School team, The Bad Birches, are the overall winners of the 2019 Pike/Wayne Envirothon. Second place went to The Beefcakes of Honesdale High School in the Wayne Highlands School District. The 33rd Annual Pike/Wayne Envirothon was held Thursday, April 25 at the Wallenpaupack Environmental Learning Center in Hawley.

The Bad Birches will represent Pike County and The Beefcakes will represent Wayne County at the State Envirothon event at the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown on May 21 and 22.

‘Focus on Lyme’: tick-borne diseases workshop

HONESDALE, PA — On Friday, May 17 at 7 p.m., The Cooperage is hosting a workshop about tick-borne diseases. Dr. Clarence Mast will speak about the clinical approach to the diagnosis and treatment of tick-borne diseases with new treatment advances. Roadside litter-pluck event

NARROWSBURG, NY — The Narrowsburg Beautification Group invites all residents of the Town of Tusten to join in the annual litter-pluck on Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you need assistance with getting filled litter bags to a county transfer station, bring them to the municipal parking lot in front of the Western Sullivan Public Library Tusten Cochecton Branch on May 18 and place them in the truck that the town will park there for this purpose.

Grief support workshop

HONESDALE, PA — Wayne Memorial Hospital is offering six free workshops designed to help people cope with the grieving process and provide support and focus on grief as a normal part of life. Because grief is a very individual process, the support group will encourage participants to explore their own solutions to the challenges of living without their loved ones and facing the changes that follow a loss. Individuals will find a  safe place to sort out their feelings and share as they are able and willing. 

The sessions will be held on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 7 p.m., May 21 through June 25 in conference room #4 on the second floor of the hospital. The support group will be facilitated by Wayne Memorial Hospital and Hospice Chaplain Rev. Edward K. Erb and hospital/hospice social worker Anna Walsh.

Summer music lesson series

‘Manifesting Wellness’ workshop

NARROWSBURG, NY — Recognizing May as National Mental Health Awareness Month, the Chi Hive presents Manifetsing Wellness with Dwayne Brown, LMSW, on Sunday, May 19 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Learn how our thoughts, feelings and behaviors are interconnected and directly affect our mood and physical states. This two-hour psychoeducational workshop is designed to provide you with mindfulness and behavioral techniques, as well as tangible tools to support you in recognizing and reframing unhelpful thinking patterns.

Grants for community art projects

HONESDALE, PA — The Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA) program is now accepting applications for Project Stream grants for art projects in Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike and Wayne counties.

A series of workshops is available for prospective applicants to meet with PPA Program Coordinator for Pocono Arts Council Tassy Gilbert to discuss the grant-writing and application process. One of these workshops will be held at The Cooperage on Wednesday, May 22 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The grants will be awarded to arts-related and community-based non-profit organizations or individual artists conducting arts programming open to the community.

Forestburgh Playhouse shows off its dove

FORESTBURGH, NY — As part of the Sullivan County Dovetrail to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Woodstock Music and Arts Festival, the Forestburgh Playhouse will unveil its own dove painted by local artist Keith Phillips.

The reception will be held on Thursday, May 23 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the playhouse. Champange and light refreshments will be served.
