Farm Arts Collective to host opening ceremony

DAMASCUS, PA — On Sunday, June 2 from 3 to 6 p.m., the new, not-for-profit organization Farm Arts Collective (FAC) will hold an opening ceremony to celebrate its inaugural season of programs and events focused on farming, art, food and ecology.

Farm Arts Collective is a farm-based community hub whose mission is to create a place where art and theatre collide with agrarian and ecological ideas through workshops and events. This year the company offers weekly performance trainings, monthly workshops in farming, food and ecology, and will present “Shakespeare on the Farm” in August 2019.

Open to the public and located at Willow Wisp Organic Farm, a solar-powered vegetable farm, the ceremony will begin with opening remarks from founders Tannis Kowalchuk and Sue Currier. A blessing from Chief Gentlemoon of the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania will follow.

Guests will then have an opportunity to tour Willow Wisp Farm, led by organic farmer and owner Greg Swartz. The day will also include a performance of “Trees” by the Farm Arts Collective Ensemble, an all-community round dance led by guest Lenape drummers. Refreshments of pie and lemonade will be available.

Anyone who has a knack for baking is given an opportunity to showcase their pastry skills at the event’s “pie-luck.” Leaders of the organization are asking visitors to bring along a pie to help feed guests.

The farm is located at 38 Hickory Lane, Damascus, PA 18415. The event is free, but donations are being accepted to help the new, not-for-profit company run its 2019 programs.
