NARROWSBURG, NY — Narrowsburg hosted two events that typified the best of small community culture last weekend. One was an open house held by the the Narrowsburg Fire Department in observance of Fire Prevention Week, which was not only an opportunity to engage in an activity lots of kids love—getting up close with real fire trucks—but also to convey important information about household fire safety. Above, Hannah Tyler is seen with her dad Dewey enjoying the front seat of a fire truck at the event. Hannah, five years old, already knows what to do in a fire emergency: “Feel the door,” she said. “If it’s hot, go to a safe window. You have to crawl under the smoke to a safe window, one that is close to the ground.” The second event was a Volunteer Appreciation Day luncheon held at the town hall to honor those who give freely of their time, skills and energy to the community.
