Bllaq and Karkula open in Callicoon

CALLICOON, NY — A furniture and design business with two related stores has opened at 24 Upper Main Street, right next to the Western Hotel. The store in the front of the building is named the Bllaq Gallery, and contains what proprietor John Erik Karkula calls “more accessible” furniture, accessories and household decor items for retail purchase. The rear store is named Karkula, as was the business John Erik started in Brooklyn many years ago, which has received recognition in prestigious publications including The New York Times and Architectural Digest. Karkula Callicoon has a showroom in the back of the building where John Erik works with local architects and designers to help realize their design ideas. Hours for Bllaq are Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11 to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Karkula is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; weekends by appointment only.
