LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY: — To close out the celebration of its 25th anniversary, the Shandelee Music Festival (SMF) will welcome back pianist Sara Davis Buechner, who has been both a teacher and a performer at Shandelee, performing with the Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players String Quartet on Saturday, August 18 at 8 p.m. The concert will include the works of Mozart, Longas, Turina and Chopin. It is lovingly dedicated to Maestro Jens Nygaard and The Jupiter Symphony. In 2001 Nygaard, Buechner and the Jupiter Symphony inaugurated the SMF’s Sunset Concert Pavilion. It was Nygaard’s final concert before his passing.
Buechner has been lauded for her “intelligence, integrity and all-encompassing technical prowess” (New York Times), “thoughtful artistry in the full service of music” (Washington Post) and “astounding virtuosity” (Philippine Star). Buechner joined the faculty of Temple University’s Boyer College of Music and Dance in 2016, after teaching at the Manhattan School of Music, New York University and the University of British Columbia.
Performing alongside Buechner will be members of the Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players String Quartet, featuring violinists Adelya Nartadjieva and I-Jung Huang, violist Maurycy Banaszek and cellist Thapelo Masita.
The Sunset Pavilion is located at 442 J. Young Rd. The grounds and Pavilion are completely accessible. Tickets cost $35 for adults, $30 for Shandelee Music Festival members, and $10 for students 17 and under. Advance reservations are required by calling 845/439-3277, or purchase tickets online at www.shandelee.org.
