MILFORD, PA — The lineup for the Milford Readers & Writers Festival on Saturday, September 29 and Sunday, September 30, continues to grow. For instance, there’ll be a panel titled “Words Won’t Die” on the topic of self publishing, led by two publishers and the author Julie Barton, who wrote and self-published the best-selling “Dog Medicine,” which was then acquired by a major New York publisher.

Among the other ticketed events are “Life, Liberty and Other Pursuits,” featuring Fox News Senior Judicial Analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano in conversation with Adm. Joe Sestak; and a panel with New Yorker cartoonists Bob Eckstein, Marisa Acocella Marchetto, Christopher Weyant and David Borchart.

There will also be a host of free programming, with the traditional science fiction panel, scheduled for September 29 at 11 a.m. at the Pike County Public Library, a highlight. In the 1950s, Milford became the citadel of science fiction when Futurians such as Damon Knight, Virginia Kidd, James Blish and Judith Merrill moved to Milford. The Futurians, a group of fans of science fiction based in New York City, became a major force in the development of science fiction writing and science fiction fandom. The festival’s science fiction panel, titled “The Science in Science Fiction,” this year, honors this heritage.

There will be many more programs; for more details, see next week’s newspaper and www.milfordreadersandwriters.com.
