HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Arts Alliance (WCAA) and the Art-A-Pelago Gallery are presenting new exhibits in three locations in Honesdale, with an opening reception on Saturday, January 12.

Each of the exhibits will feature artistic quilts, and the reception will offer a chance to meet the artists. “Stories from the Scraps,” will show 12 quilts by visiting German fiber artist Andrea Jasmine Schwenk. This is Schwenk’s first exhibit in the United States. Her work will be on display at the Paros Gallery in the D.J. Harvey Agency offices at 815 Main St. “The point of my quilts,” said Schwenk, “is not perfect execution. There are many quilters here in America who do this much better than I. I am trying to express feelings and tell stories, by painting with cloth and thread.”

Art quilts by WCAA member Linda Krause will be on display at the Anafi Gallery at the Bhodi Tree, 214 Sixth St. Another WCAA member, Janet Gaglione will display her quilts at the Thasos Gallery at Black & Brass Coffee Co., 520 Main St.

Gaglione comes from a background in theatre costume and lighting design. Krause said she draws inspiration from her time spent in Austrialia. They embody thematic influences of Aboriginal art, culture and natural surroundings. “I work in a non-traditional way,” she said, “although I basically plan my imagery, much of the time I let the designs dictate what happens.”
