Equinunk fire company barbeque

EQUINUNK, PA — The Equinunk Volunteer Fire Company will hold its chicken barbeque and day of fun on Sunday, July 29 at 12 noon. There will be games and entertainment sponsored by the Equinunk and Damascus First Responders. Music will be provided all afternoon, and food will include chicken, clams, sausages, soda and beer.

JEFFERSONVILLE, NY — Jeffersonville’s JEMS will bring another of their internationally flavored festivals to Sullivan County on Saturday, July 14 at 7 p.m., with the focus this week on India. The event will take place at the Main Street Events Stage, 4912 State Rte. 52.

One-woman show casts a light on mental health themes

HURLEYVILLE, NY — An encore performance of “Every Brilliant Thing,” a critically acclaimed play with important mental health themes, comes to the Sullivan County Museum, 265 Main St., on July 29 at 2 p.m. The play, by Duncan MacMillan with Jonny Donahoe, is about depression and the lengths we will go to for those we love.

Openings at Art-a-Pelago galleries

HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Arts Alliance will hold openings of new exhibits at its Art-a-Pelago galleries in Honesdale as part of Honesdale’s Second Saturday in July. All three will be open on July 14 from 6 to 9 p.m. The Paros Gallery at DJ Harvey Agency, 815 Main St. will feature the art of Patrick Dennis.

Down the rabbit hole

Remember Alice in Wonderland and the white rabbit? I do, and recently I’ve been heard muttering “I’m late, I’m late… for a very important date!” all around town. Even as a kid, being prompt was important, mostly because members of my family were habitually late for Thanksgiving dinners, cello recitals, school plays and the like.

The fireworks aren’t over yet

NARROWSBURG, NY — Residents and visitors still have a chance to see Independence Day fireworks. They will be held in Narrowsburg on Friday, July 6 at 9 p.m. The show is made possible by Lang Industries, Central House Resort and Lander’s River Trips. The rain date is July 7.
