REGION — Weekend of Chamber Music will offer a series of concerts over the next week during its ongoing festival. On Thursday, July 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the Catskill Distilling Company, 2037 NY-17B in Bethel, there will be a “MusicTalks!” presentation, featuring the music of and discussion with composer-in-residence Joan Tower and other festival artists. Also performing will be Carol Wincenc on flute, Alex Fiterstein on clarinet and Nurit Pacht on violin.
On Friday, July 20 at 7 p.m. at the Eddie Adams Barn, 247 Jeffersonville-North Branch Rd. in Jeffersonville, NY, there will be an open rehearsal with Tower, including questions and discussion with the artists. The repertoire will include music by both Tower and Mozart. In addition to the artists present the previous night, the performance will feature Mari Sato on violin, Tawnya Popoff on viola and Caroline Stinson on cello
On Saturday, July 21 at 8 p.m. at the Eddie Adams Barn, there will be a concert titled “Barn Variations,” a program of variations new and old, on melodies, on chords and on rhythm itself. Andrew Waggoner will join the artists from the previous night on violin.
On Thursday, July 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the Catskill Art Society, 48 Main St. in Livingston Manor, “MusicTalksII” will be presented. The concert will feature another set of variations, Baroque, contemporary, improvised and visual. Among the pieces will be “La Folia” by Marin Marais, for cello; and Bach’s “Goldberg Variations,” for string trio, with Fractal Projections. Artists will be Andrew Waggoner on violin; Lois Martin on viola and Caroline Stinson on cello.
