Community service

HONESDALE, PA — The Honesdale Area Ministerium will host its annual ecumenical Thanksgiving Service for the community on Sunday, November 19 at 4 p.m. Grace Episcopal Church, at the corner of Church and Ninth streets, will host the event.

The Rev. Richard Mowery, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, will lead the service, and the Rev. Kenneth Small, pastor of Bethany United Methodist Church, will be the preacher. Music will be provided by the Choir of Grace Church, with its rector, the Rev. Edward Erb leading. A free-will offering will be accepted to promote the outreach of the Ministerium to those in need in our community.

Free dinner in Milford

MILFORD, PA — A free community Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings will be held on November 23 for those who cannot be with their families or who are in need on Thanksgiving Day. The meal will be prepared this year at the Church of the Good Shepherd, corner of Fifth and Catharine streets, and will be served at 12 noon. The day starts at 9 a.m. for the volunteers who cook the food, since they first pack up and deliver turkey dinners and lots of extras to many people in meals-on-wheels programs or to anyone who finds it difficult to come out.

Local businesses make donations to buy the food, the church provides its kitchen and hall, Boy Scouts from local troops help with set up and delivery, and area volunteers cook and serve the food in a pleasant family atmosphere.

If you know of anyone who would like a meal delivered or for any questions call Steve Davis at 570/228-7699. The church number for calls on Thursday morning is 570/296-8123.
