LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — The Livingston Manor Rotary Ice Carnival will return this weekend, with a kickoff dance on Friday, January 20 at Livingston Manor Central School from 6:45 to 9:45 p.m. The traditional crowning of the Ice Festival King and Queen will take place at 9 p.m.

Starting at 9 a.m. on the 21st, the annual snow sculpture contest will commence, conditions permitting, with a theme of “Snowmen on Broadway.” Snow sculptures will be constructed at Rotary Park on Pleasant Street. Hot chocolate will be provided for participating students and advisors. Judging is at 3 p.m.

On Sunday the bulk of the festivities take place starting at 12 noon, when there will be snowshoeing sponsored by Morgan Outdoors, race registration and a horse-drawn sleigh ride. At 1 p.m. the snow sculpture contest winners will be announced, followed by the traditional parade of the Ice Carnival King and Queen and their court around the Walter Seeley Memorial Skating Rink. Afterward, skating exhibitions featuring nationally and regionally ranked amateur figure skaters from the Skating Club of New York will be presented.

At 2 p.m., skating races will take place in all age categories, with first, second and third-place finishers receiving Olympic-style medals. At 3 p.m., the ice will be open for free skating for all.
