DINGMANS FERRY, PA — The Dingmans Ferry-Delaware Township Historical Society will host artist Marie Liu for a presentation about the history of art of the Minisink-Pocono region on Thursday, May 17 at 7 p.m. at the Delaware Township Municipal Building. Liu was the resident artist of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area in 2015-16. This slide presentation was the educational component of the residency and was first presented at the Marie Zimmermann House, the home of a prominent jewelry and metal artist.

Liu has been painting scenes of this region for a decade, and became curious about what artists may have preceded her and what images, particularly the waterfalls, she could find. What role did religion, politics, economics and geography play in the artistic representation of the region? Did the Hudson River School paint here? Who is producing art of the region today? These are some of the questions addressed in the presentation.

The free event will include a display of some of Liu’s paintings. Refreshments will be provided by the historical society members. For more information email bbonney@ptd.net or 570/369-7647.
