WOODBOURNE, NY — The Sullivan County Community Chorus has been going for 40 years now, and will be celebrating with something special for its spring concert, scheduled for this Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. It will be welcoming home a native daughter, mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe, who is a Monticello High School graduate, used to sing with the Sullivan County Community Chorus, and has become one of the most highly respected and critically acclaimed artists of her generation. This will be a rare chance to hear a singer of this caliber live in our own region.

During its 40-year existence, the chorus has made all kinds of different music, and so it’s fitting that this program will present different styles and genres of music chosen by each of its conductors past and present to bring to chorus members and those attending their concerts over the years. It will also feature the Sullivan Chamber Singers.

The Sullivan County Community Chorus is under the direction of Kevin J. Giroux, with accompanist Keira Weyant. It consists of members ranging in age from 16 to over 80 years. Performances of the Community Chorus are made possible in part with funds from the Sullivan County Decentralization Program, a re-grant program of the New York State Council on the Arts, administered by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance.

Immediately following the performance, there will be a reception open to all attending the concert.
