HONESDALE, PA — The Cooperage, 1030 Main St., hosts a contra dance monthly between April and December, and the next one will be held on Saturday, June 30. There will be live music by Jeanne Wassman, Judy Trudgen and Donna Lee Gregor. Caller Laurie B. will do a beginner lesson starting at 7:15 p.m., and the dancing will start at 7:30 p.m.
Contra dance is a folk dance made up of long lines of couples. It has mixed origins from English country dance, Scottish and French dance styles in the 17th century, with strong African influence from Appalachia. The suggested donation is $10 per person, free for kids under 15.
The Cooperage is operated by the The Cooperage Project, a not-for-profit organization that seeks to build community. For more information visit www.thecooperageproject.org or call 570/253-2020.
