MONTICELLO and NARROWSBURG, NY — The Sullivan County Chamber Orchestra (SCCO) will present the finale of its 2017-18 season, “The Carnival’s in Town,” on Saturday, June 9 at 7 p.m. at Monticello’s Nesin Theatre and Sunday, June 10 at 2 p.m. at Narrowsburg’s Tusten Theatre, presented by Delaware Valley Arts Alliance.
The concert will feature Camille Saint-Saëns’ “The Carnival of the Animals,” one of the most recognizable pieces of the 19th century. This famous work includes 14 playful movements each of which evokes a different animal. Between each movement, children’s book author/illustrator Linda Kujawski will provide original narration. Following both performances, the audience can ask the musicians questions and interact with musical instruments in SCCO’s “Instrument Petting Zoo.”
Other pieces performed will be “The Fantasy Creatures,” a short collection of three miniatures for chamber orchestra composed by Nancy Wegrzyn; and Jean Francaix’s concerto for double bass, performed by Andrew Trombley, SCCO artistic director.
