PARKSVILLE, NY — The Grateful Dead’s final performance in July of 1995 marked the end of an era.  To celebrate their legacy, a regional festival named after a song from the last set the group ever played, “So Many Roads,” will be held at the Arrowhead Ranch from July 5 at 2 p.m. to July 7 at 6 p.m.

The Buddy Holly Story is rocking the house nightly at the Forestburgh Playhouse.

The hills are alive

I don’t mean that literally, although with the record-breaking deluge we’ve experienced in the last few weeks, there’s that too. I’ve seen more bugs and slugs than ever before; the never-ending parade of creepy-crawlys slithering, buzzing, flying and biting their way through the Catskills has been epic.

Trout Parade founders and grand marshals Gerard Ilaria, foreground, and Steve Wilkinson described their festive attire as “The Village people meet Captain & Tennille” with fish.

Take a picture: it’ll last longer!

That’s right—I’ve been to another parade. And yes, I took hundreds of photos. For years, my friends in other parts of the country have marveled over the sheer number of festivals and parades held here in the Upper Delaware River region. While they often poke fun, I think they’re actually a little bit jealous, and who can blame them?
