Among the constants of weddings is the exchange of vows, when the bride and groom proclaim their love and commitment to each other in the presence of witnesses. Sharing the joy of the day with friends and family is an important part of the wedding for most couples—one reason this milestone event is recorded for posterity, as seen in this series of four photos below, extending from 1912 (a somber photograph, indeed), to the 1930s, to two present-day weddings.
