LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY — “Runner-up is never as good as winning,” said Eldred’s Jordan Lepes, moments after the Lady Yellowjackets lost 51-35 to the Lady Spartans of S.S. Seward during the Section IX Class D girls’ basketball championship match.

Yellowjackets Sting Dawgs 56-48

ELDRED, NY — The #1 “Rule of Bugs” is never stick your hand into a yellow jackets’ nest.

But that’s exactly what happened to the Bulldogs of Sullivan West as they tangled with the Eldred Yellowjackets on February 16 at the home team’s William “Coach” Werneke Gym, as the visitors got stung by 8 points at the final buzzer.

A tale of two halves

LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY — It was like watching two different games.

In the first half of the girls’ non-league varsity game of hoops on February 16, the home team Lady Bulldogs of Sullivan West went on a 17-4 rampage against the Lady Eagles of Onteora.

Dawgs drop a 47-46 nail biter to Wildcats

LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY — It was a real dog and cat fight.

On Saturday, February 4, the Wildcats of Livingston Manor (7-5) turned the tables on the Sullivan West Bulldogs 96-8) winning the boys’ varsity game of hoops by one point in the final seconds of the contest.

LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — Fly Fest 2017 really reeled ‘em in, as it attracted fly tyers from as far away as the sunny climes of Daytona Beach, FL to snow-laden Callicoon, NY.

The 12th annual event was sponsored by Catskill Flies of Roscoe. It was hosted on Saturday, February 4, by the Catskill Fly Fishing Center & Museum (CFFCM).

Lady Comets soar over Lady Indians 71-31

LIBERTY, NY — So far for the Lady Indians, it’s been “Winless in Liberty.”

On Monday, January 30, during a home-stand girls’ varsity league basketball game against the Lady Comets of Fallsburg (10-4 overall, 4-0 division), the Lady Indians (0-10) were defeated by a whopping 40 points.

The first time they squared off against each other this season, Eldred defeated the Bulldogs of Sullivan West 48-46 in the opening round of the O’Neill tourney on December 27, 2016.

LIBERTY, NY — It was a game of slogans.

The visiting Lady Bears of Tri-Valley took to the court before the December 9 girls bon-league varsity basketball game against the home team Liberty Lady Indians sporting warm-ups emblazoned, “It has nothing to do with talent. It has everything to do with effort.”
