LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY — Fall is about to give way to winter, but the awesome athletic endeavors of autumn evinced by soccer, volleyball and football players as well as the stalwart endeavors of cross-country harriers were on the agenda for the Sullivan West Fall Sports Awards on November 20.

After a welcome from assistant principal Scott Haberli, athletic director Dave Franskevicz lauded the fact that Kelsey Dutton and Courtney Meyerer qualified for the state cross-country meet. Dutton was 57th among the top Class C runners in the state. Meyerer was selected as an alternate after she finished sixth in Section Nine. The girls soccer team was named the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s (NYSPHSAA) Scholar Athlete team for the fourth straight year, while the football team received Scholar Athlete honors for the third straight year. Coaches extolled their teams and distributed trophies to the two most-deserving members of their squads. Season highlights were recalled, as each coach recapped the autumn’s most memorable milestones. This writer followed up the award presentations with a musical slide show as the evening’s finale that chronicled each sport and included quotes affirming the values imparted from participating in sports and the life lessons learned therein. To glean more about what the coaches said and the particulars of the accomplishments of the award winners, read the story titled, “Adieu to Autumn Bulldog Style,” on www.sportsinsightsny.com. Here is a list of this autumn’s award recipients: Girls soccer: Sydney Sipple, Comeback Player of the Year; Carly Grishaber, MVP.
