September 17, 2013 —
On 09/18/2013 Honesdale Police received a tip that 15 year old runaway Maddelyn Hayes and 28 year old Damian Acosta were staying in a home on Winter Ave, Staten Island New York.
Honesdale police officers followed up on the lead, and contacted the 120th Precinct of the NYPD. Around 0230 hours, Hayes was located at the home in Staten Island, as was Acosta. Acosta was found to be wanted by the State of New York on a parole violation. Acosta was taken into custody by the NYPD.
Hayes was also taken into custody and transported to NYPD headquarters where she will be picked up by family.
A warrant will be forthcoming for Damian Acosta from the Honesdale Police Department charging him with Felony 3, Interference with the Custody of a Child, and Misdemeanor 1 Corruption of Minors.

The Honesdale Borough Police Department is currently investigating the runaway of a 15 year old female Honesdale resident.
The incident was reported to police on 09/14/2013. Maddelyn Hayes, 15 years of age, was last seen in her home at 5 p.m., on Friday 09/13/2013. Investigation has found that Hayes, along with a 28-year-old male named Damian Acosta, had purchased bus tickets and left Honesdale area on the Short Line Bus at 6:00 p.m. on 09/13/2013.
Hayes is 5’03” tall, weighs about 160 pounds, has long blond hair and hazel eyes. Unknown what type of clothing Hayes was last wearing.
At this time it is unknown where the two were traveling, but Acosta has ties in New York, Florida and California. Anyone with information about Maddelyn Hayes or Damian Acosta is asked to contact the Honesdale Borough Police at 570/253-1900. All calls will be kept confidential.
