On Monday June 3, 2013 at about 10:35 a.m., Sullivan County 911 polled for a burglary in progress on Strout Rd. in the Town of Bethel. Hearing that no units were available in the vicinity, Sullivan County Undersheriff Eric Chaboty, who was on his way to a meeting, responded to the call.
Upon arriving at the location the Undersheriff located a subject fitting the description given by 911, on the porch of a nearby residence. Bethel Constable Doug Ketchum arrived at the scene to assist and interviewed the complainant who stated that he had observed the subject try to gain entry to his residence.
The complainant further stated that his residence had been broken into earlier in the week, and that several household items had been taken as well as some women's underwear from a dresser drawer.
Further investigation by Sheriff's Detectives later revealed that the subject Michael L. Weaver, 42, of Monguap Valley, had actually broken into the complainant's residence on three different occasions. Weaver was charged with three counts of Burglary in the 2nd degree. He was arraigned before Town Justice Kevin Rhyne and sent to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $20,000.
