WOODBOURNE, NY — The Sullivan County Community Chorus will present its 37th annual Spring Concert on Sunday, June 15 at 3 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 6317 Route 42. The concert theme chosen by conductor Kevin Giroux is “The Poetry of Music.” The pieces performed have text written by poets, some famous and some not so famous. The signature piece will be by Benjamin Britten, “Rejoice in the Lamb” with text by Christopher Smart.
The Sullivan County Community Chorus consists of members from Sullivan County, whose ages range from 16 to over 80 years of age.
Giroux is in his 16th year as choral director at Tri-Valley Central School, Grahamsville. Giroux’s other music activities include solo adjudicator for NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) and Zone 9 representative (Green, Orange, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster counties), past president and treasurer of the Sullivan County Music Educators Association and part-time church organist.
A native of Plattsburgh, Giroux received a bachelors of music education from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam and a masters in music education from Ithaca College.
Admission costs $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, with a suggested donation of $10 for students. Immediately following the performance, there will be a reception open to all attending the concert. For further information contact Diane Foster at 845/439-4458.
