CALLICOON, NY — It’s time to sign up for Thanksgiving food boxes. Interfaith Outreach United (IOU) offers the gift of a holiday feast, with turkey and all the fixings, to low-income families living within a 12-mile radius of Callicoon. To receive a food box, a member of the family must register in advance at the Main Street Thrift Shop no later than Saturday, November 19. The Thrift Shop is open every day except Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Each box holds a turkey, stuffing mix, potatoes, vegetables, cranberry sauce and dessert makings. Families that wish to receive Christmas turkeys and gifts for their children from the Christmas Toy Exchange can also sign up at the Thrift Shop during business hours.
The “fixings” are donated by churches that support IOU. Turkeys are provided by individuals and local businesses. To donate a turkey or contribute cash for purchase of turkeys, call 845/887-5637 or 845/887-5919.
Those who have pre-registered can pick up their food boxes on Monday, November 21 between 12:30 and 2 p.m., at Hermann Hall of the Delaware Youth Center in Callicoon.
