On Monday May 1, 2017, at about 7:50 AM, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Patrol responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle accident on Old Liberty Road in the vicinity of the Hidden Ridge subdivision in the Town of Thompson.

At the location, deputies found that a Jeep Cherokee and Dodge Ram pickup truck had collided resulting in minor injuries to both drivers. The victims were taken to Catskill Regional Medical Center where they were treated and released. During the course of the investigation it was learned that the pickup truck had been reported stolen earlier that morning. At approximately 6:00 AM, the truck had been left with its engine running outside of the Mobil gas station located off of State Route 17 at exit 118 in Fair Oaks. When the driver came out of the convenience store he found that his vehicle was gone. The Town of Wallkill Police, who were investigating, advised that there were no witnesses to the theft.

At the time of the crash in Sullivan County, the pickup truck was being driven by Marquis Hunter, 28, of Middletown, NY. Hunter, who has a suspended driver’s license, was charged with Felony Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and several vehicle and traffic violations. He was arraigned before Town of Thompson Judge Martin Miller and sent to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $45,000 bail. He is due back in court May 8, 2017 at 5:00 PM.

The Sheriff’s Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Monticello Fire Department and Mobile Medic Ambulance. NYSEG responded to the scene to replace utility poles that had been damaged as a result of the accident.
