Sullivan County District Attorney Jim Farrell announced today that James Trojahn, 40, of Liberty, NY was sentenced to 4 years in prison and 10 years of post-release supervision for Disseminating Indecent Material to a Minor in the 1^st Degree as a Sexually Motivated Felony, a class D sexual felony. Trojahn entered a guilty plea on November 7, 2016 and admitted that in February of 2016 Trojahn sent a picture of his genitals to a 14-year-old girl and solicited her to have sex with him. The girl reported what had occurred to a guidance counsellor at school, who then contacted the Fallsburg Police Department who conducted an investigation which led to Trojahn’s arrest. The investigation revealed that Trojahn did not engage in any physical sexual conduct with the victim. 

Farrell said, “This case highlights why we need to be constantly engaging our children and speaking with them about what is going on in their digital worlds, and, if anyone is propositioning them or soliciting pictures from them we need to make sure that they know that they should report it to a trusted adult. That is exactly what this child did and it resulted in the arrest and successful prosecution of this defendant. Individuals like Trojhan, who engage in these depraved acts, need to be behind bars and marked as sexual offenders so society can be protected.” 

Trojahn will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison and will be supervised by parole authorities for 10 years after he serves the 4 year prison sentence. Chief Assistant DA Meagan Galligan prosecuted the case for the DA’s Office.
