Summer gardening seminar

FERNDALE, NY — Many new gardens have been created throughout Sullivan County this summer, along with the thousands of annual and perennial flowers, trees and shrubs planted in existing garden beds. Experts know how to present these gardens so that the flowers shine to their best advantage. This is valuable information for all gardeners, but particularly helpful to the 55 communities preparing for August visits from the Sullivan Renaissance judges.

A free summer gardening seminar will share these tips and tricks to help make gardens grow and glow on Wednesday, July 9 at 7 p.m. in the CVI Center in Ferndale.

The seminar will offer insights into what Sullivan Renaissance judges look for when they review community gardens around the county. The information will be helpful to every gardener who wants to learn some gardening how-to’s.

Between August 6 and 9 several teams of judges, including panelists from Canada, will travel to 55 different locations to evaluate gardens and projects. They will be awarding monetary prizes based on how well the volunteers have performed, including awards for the best “showing of flowers.” Prizes range from $1,000 to $25,000 depending on the program and the size of the project.

Space is limited and pre-registration is requested for the seminar. Refreshments will be provided.

For more information or to register, contact Sullivan Renaissance at 845/295-2445 or www.sullivanrenaissance.org.
