“Everest IMAX” (1998) is the compelling true story of a team of climbers, including American Ed Viesturs, who ascended Everest in 1996. The film, narrated by actor Liam Neeson, chronicles their successful ascent just days after fellow mountaineers died on the mountain. The film chronicles how high altitude challenges a climber’s physical and mental capabilities, and how Sherpa culture permeates the Mount Everest experience (45 minutes). Anyone with mountain-climbing experience is invited to bring along favorite climbing gear, such as crampons and ice axes, for an informal gear show-and-tell after the screening.

A collection of Everest-inspired books, movies and maps assembled by the Livingston Manor library will be on exhibit at Morgan Outdoors from January 25 to February 1. Visitors will earn a ticket for the Outdoor Enthusiast raffle drawing taking place right after the film.

Saturday, March 1, 6:30 p.m.

The documentary “Toughest Race on Earth: Iditarod” takes an exciting look behind the scenes of this amazing 1,000-mile-long dog sled race. The screening will kick off a week-long 2014 Iditarod celebration in Livingston Manor, highlighted by a visit from veteran Iditarod racer Kim Darst and her sled dog Cotton on March 8 (45 minutes).

Saturday, April 5, 6:30 p.m.

Based on a true story, the 2011 Emmy-winning film “My Life as a Turkey” chronicles one man’s remarkable and moving experience of raising a group of wild turkey hatchlings to adulthood. Join Morgan Outdoors as turkey toms strut in the woods and fields and spring birding season comes into full force (60 minutes).
