GREENTOWN, PA — Promised Land State Park will hold a kayak instructional course with Northeast PA Kayak School on Thursday, September 12 at Promised Land Lake. There are two sessions: 2 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.; only register for one session as they are both the same. The course is called “Skill-building on the Water Level II: Kayak Paddling Course.”

Join the expert staff of Northeast PA Kayak School to work on your kayaking skills. This course will focus on turns, kayak over kayak rescue, kayak safety and wet exits (optional). Learn how to paddle smoothly and efficiently. Bring your own kayak or borrow one from Promised Land State Park. If you have your own boat, you must have a Department of Conservation of Natural Resources (DCNR) launch permit or registration from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PAFBC). All participants must wear a fastened U.S. Coast Guard approved Type I, II, or III Personal Flotation Device (PFD). Registration is necessary. You must have previously paddled a kayak to attend this program. Getting wet is optional.

The fee is $45/person payable at program to Northeast PA Kayak School. Pre-registration is required. To register, email PromisedLandEnvEdSp@pa.gov, call 570/676-056, or stop at the park office. Provide your name, phone number, email address and number of people attending. If borrowing park equipment (kayak, PFD, and paddle), additional fee is $5/person; payable at program.
