MILFORD, PA — A walk in the gardens, a walk in the woods and a walk through town are special programs being offered this May by the U.S. Forest Service at Grey Towers.

On Saturday, May 18, at 1 p.m. visitors have a chance to walk in the woods of the Milford Experimental Forest, the original research station of the Yale School of Forestry, circa 1901. This moderately-strenuous, 1.5-mile hike will showcase American chestnut reintroduction and deer management for forest health. Meet at the visitor’s pavilion at Grey Towers to carpool to the forest. On Sunday, May 19, at 11 a.m., a walking tour of Milford provides information about the many contributions made by the prominent Pinchot family to conservation in America and the Milford community since the 1800s. This guided walking tour will answer such questions as who lived in the Milford Community House before it became the Pike County Library, and what was Forest Hall used for before it became an antiques center. Meet on the Community House lawn at the corner of Broad and Harford Streets. Call 570/296-9630 to save a spot. The cost is $8 for adults and $7 for seniors.

All walks are held rain or shine; sturdy, comfortable footwear is recommended.
